PBSP marks 42nd Founding Day
and Members Meeting

The Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) recently celebrated its 42nd year of being the largest business-led social development organization in the country at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati with the theme “The Role of Business in Promoting Inclusive Growth”.

The Annual Membership Meeting was highlighted with an Inclusive Business Forum entitled “Are We Ready for Inclusive Growth?” that provided a venue for the government and business sector to discuss the conditions in achieving inclusive growth and surfaced the important role of business in social development. Among the panelists of the forum from the government sector were Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo; Socioeconomic Planning Secretary and National Economic and Development Authority Director-General Arsenio Balisacan; Department of Health Secretary Enrique Ona. Panelists from the private sector were Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Co. and PBSP Chairman Manuel V Pangilinan; Philippine Investment Management (PHINMA), Inc. President and CEO and PBSP Board Treasurer Ramon Del Rosario; Chairman and CEO Nestle Philippines and PBSP Trustee John Martin Miller.

“We see inclusive growth happening especially if economic growth continues its pace at 6% to 7% over the next 10 years. But it can be faster if there are businesses that seek to hit all sectors of society”, said Secretary Balisacan. Overall, it was established that the goal is new and challenging and there is a need for the government to consider providing “financing to businesses”, as mentioned by Asian Social Enterprise Incubator (ASEI) Executive Director Markus Dietrich.

PBSP directs to further strengthen its present Platforms for Collective Engagements (PlaCEs) in the areas of Health, Education, Environment, and Livelihood and Enterprise Development (HEEL) through Inclusive Business and the support of its member companies, with local and international partners who are one with the foundation’s vision to reduce poverty.
