MILITANTS CALL FOR JUSTICE AND IMMEDIATE SCRAPPING OF US-RP VFA

MANILA PHILIPPINES-- Militants from Southern Tagalog slams the US Embassy with the recent incident of the USS Guardian’s destruction of the Tubattaha Reef, a national protected area.

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Southern Tagalog (BAYAN-ST) expresses its disgust over the incident, “we were right, that US imperialist agression only proves one thing—destruction” in a statement by Erica Chiong, BAYAN-ST’s Deputy Secretary General.

“From the plunders of our natural resources, unfair trade agreements and hegemonic socio-political rule, imperialism never failed to bring destruction and disasters to our land and seas.“ Chiong further explained.

Months ago, another US warship was involved in dumping of toxic materials along the western coast of Luzon, and regularly nuclear submarines and nuclear powered aircraft carriers conduct portcalls throughout the country by the virtue of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).

“This mindless VFA furthers exploit and destroys our country, alongside from its clear infringement our national sovereignty and patrimony. We demand justice for these crimes committed by the imperialist US against our land and seas, and against our people. We held the Aquino regime responsible, for being its imprimatur. It is indeed a long overdue to scrap the Visiting Forces Agreement.” Chiong stresses.

The protest action ended around 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon. The protesters set to join the national commemoration of the EDSA 2 People Power.#
