Mercy Mission and Peace Caravan 2012

TO AID the people of Quezon from the effects of heightened militarization under Oplan Bayanihan of the Aquino Administration, An 8-day Mercy Mission and Peace Caravan will be held by different sectors under “Save Bondoc Peninsula Movement” and different national organizations that support the campaign to stop militarization in the provinces.

The public knows little of the continuous rise in the number of cases of human rights violations in the province of Quezon, particularly in Southern Quezon and Bondoc Peninsula and its nearby towns, due to the deployment of 8 battalions of Philippine Army, police and para-military troops.

Since 2011, Karapatan-Quezon has documented 127 victims with different cases of human rights violations. The documented cases are enforced disappearance, torture, illegal arrest and detention, illegal search and seizure and other similar cases.
There is a great need to document the current condition of Bondoc Peninsula. This will pave a way to gather data and information that can induce steps of different sectors and institutions, both government and non-government, to act to the needs of the people. Activities in the Mercy Mission include medical missions, food packages distribution, psychosocial therapy, art workshop and ecumenical services to affected communities inaccessible to the government’s social services
