Fifth Regional Confab on Autism

PRESS RELEASE
August 31, 2012

5th Regional Conference on Autism
to be held in Calabarzon
The 5th Regional Conference on Autism (2nd CALABARZON Conference) will be on September 8-9, 2012 at San Lazaro Business and Leisure Park, Carmona, Cavite in Barangay Lantic. The target audience for the conference are local government executives, focal persons for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), parents, educators, professionals, students and advocates. Day 1 will highlight Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Best Practices and Sites of the Municipality of Carmona to present a recognized model program for PWDs for all LGUs in Region 4A. On the same day, the Conference will also look at parent empowerment and home-centered care for adults in transition. Day 2 will focus on autism outcomes and home-based intervention for Persons with Autism (PWA), family support, PWAs’ journeys plus sibling roles and empowerment. The Conference hopes to further create awareness at the local level on the plight of Persons with Autism and achieve support from all sectors.

Studies in the US two years ago hold that 1% of the total US population fall within the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It appears that this number is rising. In more recent studies, the CDC is placing the number now at 1:88 with cases of ASD on the rise.
Though still inconclusive at this point, it is possible that the Philippines could not be far behind in terms of the ratio of neurotypical persons vis-a-vis Persons with Autism (PWAs).

This is precisely why greater awareness is needed to unlock the mystery & give families with Persons with Autism hope, and the general public an appreciation of the condition of persons diagnosed with ASD.
You have the power to make a difference between apathy & action. Please support the 5thRegional Conference on Autism to be held in Calabarzon on September 8 & 9, 2012, at the San Lazaro Business & Leisure Park in Cavite.
